The South Tampa Aquatic Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the South Tampa Aquatic Team to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Bobby Hicks Swim Group Information

Dolphin Group

This is our entry level group to our team. An athlete will need to swim 25 yards free and back to enter this group.  Athletes in this group focus mainly on learning four legal competitive strokes, having fun, and learning starts and turn techniques.

Age Group I

From the Dolphin group, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group focus mainly on learning four legal competitive strokes, having fun, and perfecting starts and turn techniques. This group is exposed to training for the first time with the pace clock. Competing at swim meets is highly encouraged at a rate of about once per month.

Age Group II

From the Age Group I group, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group are usually at least 10 years old and have completed the Age Group I move-up skills test. This group is exposed to training for the first time while trying to prepare for the longer races. Competing at swim meets is highly encouraged at a rate of about once per month.

Junior Team

Minimum age for entry into this group is 11 years old. Athletes entering this group must display a desire to begin training on a more committed basis. Competition at swim meets is expected in this group. Training takes precedence over technique work for the first time in the athlete’s development. Athletes in this group train for all races with more focus on the longer races like the 200 Individual Medley and 500 Freestyles.

Senior Team Group

Minimum age for entry into this group is 12 (girls) or 13 (boys). Athletes entering the Senior Team group must display a strong desire to perform at the highest level they are capable of. Training is geared towards individual talents, although a strong aerobic endurance factor is present. Athletes in the Senior Team group are directed towards making their Florida Sectional Time Standards. Minimum training sets include:

High School Prep Group

The group will offer a Year-round Training Program for swimmers wishing to prepare for any upcoming swim season. A bridge to competitive swimming that will consist of training which will focus on drills, technique, and conditioning for any future swimming requirements.

National Team Group

Minimum criteria for entry is (1) National time standard and a desire to be competitive on a National level. This group focuses on qualifying for Olympic Trials every 4 years. Minimum training sets for entry include:
